There are three levels of prevention. The primary prevention has no disease (prevention), secondary prevention has a subclinical disease (detection), and the tertiary prevention has a diagnosed disease (treatment). Our goal is to educate the communities to remain in the primary level with nutriment and lifestyle changes as proven by many scientific experts and studies.
Harvard Health Publishing has indicated that “products of inflammatory reactions damage cellular DNA, creating mutant genes that lead to cancer”; and “lifestyle changes dampen inflammation” (2020). We believe that anyone can recover and live a healthy, happy, life by turning off genetic predispositions and
oxidative stress with a plant-based lifestyle.
A sedentary lifestyle is the new smoking and according to the Harvard JAMA Study: “The substitution of plant protein for animal protein is associated with lower mortality” (2016). In order to achieve restoration, an individual must focus on 80% diet and 20% exercise to detox the lymphatic system and strengthen the immune system.
Our founder, Ana Rosario Marcial, has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is committed on educating schools, religious centers, public and private sector organizations on the long term benefits of a Whole Foods Plant-Based diet. She is a Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate Professional since completing her program with the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies through Cornell University, an Ivy League research university.
Ana has her own testimonies after stepping out from the Western or Standard American lifestyle. She was ecstatic after living the benefits in her own body in terms of the disappearance of post-military enlistment food allergies. Ana's former Allergist stated that "because of the anti-inflammatory diet, all the chemicals in the body that were causing allergic reactions were gone". This anti-inflammatory lifestyle included removing red meats, processed foods, dairy, etc. Ana even has a daily morning turmeric tea routine before breakfast that has boosted her immune system and cleared her skin!
Later on, Ana decided to merge her new lifestyle with her knowledge in chronic disease prevention as a registered nurse to bless others with the DNA HOPE® Seminars! She is devoted to advancing global health by dedicating her efforts to achieving crucial targets set by the World Health Organization. With a fervent passion for community health, Ana focuses on reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases, contributing to the ambitious goal of a one-third reduction by 2030 through preventive measures and effective treatment. In addition, Ana is unwavering in her commitment to halting the rise in diabetes and obesity, recognizing the urgency of addressing these pressing health challenges.
Moreover, in Puerto Rico, DNA HOPE® Assessments commenced to solve the registered nurse shortage in the Elderly Centers situated in rural areas. This consists of physical assessments, nursing treatment plans and documentation, monthly progress monitoring, and other customized nursing care for the elderly. With approximately 22.7% of the population in Puerto Rico aged 65 or older, considering the significant loss of over 46% of physicians in the past thirteen years, and the 100,000 nurses that left their jobs in 2022 (due to working conditions, low pay and burnout), the need for registered nurses in elderly care centers becomes imperative. This growing proportion of older individuals underscores the crucial importance of providing specialized and continuous healthcare.
Furthermore, recognizing the challenges faced by working professionals when their children fall ill, Ana was driven by the staggering statistics revealing the impact of childcare issues on the workforce. Studies indicate that working parents miss an average of 3-6 days of work per year due to their child's illness, leading to productivity loss and financial strain for families. Motivated by a desire to alleviate the burden on working parents and ensure that no child goes without the care they need, Ana embarked on the journey of establishing this mobile home care service to deliver high-quality healthcare directly to their doorstep.
Finally, Ana advocates that the presence of trained nurses would not only ensure more accessible and personalized care but also help offset the decline in physician availability, thus ensuring an optimal care environment for the communities on the island.
